Water project in Ghana, the Boamadumase region, continues to make an impact
Recently, FHN Ghana carried out a major maintenance and repair project on boreholes in the Boamadumase region of Ghana. FHN had previously constructed 11 boreholes serving 10 villages and providing an essential source of clean water for local communities. A total of eight boreholes were repaired – two that were completely non-functional and six that required maintenance. The work included repairing damaged equipment, replacing parts and servicing hand pumps. The project, costing GHS 15,000, was supported by FHN Germany/Sweden and carried out under the supervision of Project Manager David Amoako.
The results are very positive: all eight boreholes are now fully functional, once again providing clean and safe water to the communities. This means shorter journeys to collect water and better conditions for hygiene, health and everyday life.
However, challenges remain. Kokrobua Extension still has no local borehole, and residents have to travel approximately two kilometres to collect water. FHN Germany/Sweden is therefore considering funding the construction of new sustainable hand-pump boreholes in Kokrobua Extension and Sikanihia.
